Liber Nox

I'm on a reading spree! LOL

I just finished this book, "Liber Nox" by Michael Howard.

It was interesting. The author said he did not want to present a "wicca 101" or even a trad witchcraft 101 but really, that's all it was to me.  It's too bad too, as there was really not much in it that was new to me, and I kind of expected new info, since it billed itself as a book about traditional witchcraft (as opposed to Wicca). So I really wondered, after reading it, what is the difference between trad craft and Wicca? No need to answer, I know enough of the answer. I just didn't get it from this book, since everything that was in it I learned from the Wiccan coven I used to be in.

Still, it wasn't a bad read, just nothing new to me. For others, this might be the perfect book if you are looking for the basics.

obsidian blade

Many years ago I gave away an obsidian blade blank. I'm glad I did, it was left behind by an ex and I didn't want it. But several years later I started thinking about it. For some reason it seemed like I needed to get one of my own, eventually.

It took years, but I finally bought one at the rock and gem show today. It's a different shape than the one I gave away (which is good). I need to add handle leather, and then make a wooden sheath for it so it won't get accidentally broken.

The sun really brings out that rainbow pattern in the tip doesn't it!

Book review

I just finished this book,  "The Rebirth of Witchcraft" by Doreen Valiente.

I wish I'd read this book years ago! It's history from Valiente's point of view, and is really an excellent point of view. I already knew, from 3rd party writings, some of what she talks about in this book, but I learned a number of things and of course, I really enjoyed her style of writing and her "voice".

I highly recommend this book, and in fact I'll likely suggest this is required reading for our coven.

Vagina Monologues

One of my covenmates was a performer in the Vagina Monologues up in Dubuque. I had never seen this show, so I had to go see it!

I was really blown away by many of the skits. My friend's was awesome. Actually, she was in two!  She did one, where she played a southern woman, and she had the accent down pat. Then she did a skit with a few others ladies.

There were a few of the skits that had me crying. So moving. If you haven't yet, get yourself to the show to see it. Or look it up on youtube.

new acquisition

I haven't purchased a deity statue for years.  But I suddenly had an urge to buy a Baphomet statue. It's smallish, but it fits perfect where I keep my personal altar.

I found it on Amazon of all places. :)

We're so pretteh...

I'm in the most beautiful coven in the world. My opinion of course.  But this is my blog and my opinion is the only one that counts. lol

I hung out with two of my ladies for a night on the town... actually, a night out on the casino boat. lol  We weren't out for gambling... though we did, a little. Mostly just to try it out. I actually came home ahead $20, which is a big deal for me.

Not all coven get-togethers have to be only about ritual or magick.
