May Day!

It's that time of year again! May Day at Many Hand's House!

Though Ostara heralds spring; for me, May Day is what I look forward to the most. By this time, it's warmer, and we can usually ditch the winter coats!

At least this year the weather was lovely and we ditched all the coats! lol  Unfortunately I got no picture of me this year, and I rather liked the lovely turquoise dress I was wearing.

Singing the May Pole is always easier when we have drummers!

In fact, any party at Many Hands House is rife with music! Many of the folks that come are musicians and bring their instruments to play and sing. Of course, the kids love to join in. ;)

Blessed May Day to you!

more pysanky

I finished up a couple more pysanky eggs.

This first one is one I've been trying to complete for years. Every time I start it, it gets broken! lol  This year was going to be my final attempt.  I wanted to make it to replace a MUCH better version made by a lady that I bought it from at a holiday bazaar at her house. She was an amazing pysanky artist, and her egg was perfect. But it broke in a move and I was disappointed to lose it.

When a friend taught me how to do this technique myself, I vowed to make one, but never could get it to last long enough to finish. LOL  If this one does not survive the egg drying process, I will not replace it.

This orange and red one is a simpler design I decided to do to give my brain a break. The non-visible side has a big screw up... but I don't care.

I still have the stuff out. I may try to get another egg done before March is over. :)

Spring is returning!

I was pulling out stuff to set up our seasonal household altar and pulled out all the decorated eggs that have survived the years. I decided to put them in one of my bowls on the altar, but before I did that, I took this picture.

Ostara season was never the Sabbat I resonated most with, but as my covenmate says, it is the herald of spring. As I get older and dislike winter more and more every year, I am coming around to her way of thinking! So I particularly enjoyed putting this year's spring altar together.

I wish more of the eggs we've made over the years survived. But if I blow them out, they are super fragile. If I go traditional and leave the raw egg inside, sometimes they don't make it. But at least I have these. And we'll make more this year. :)

Spring and Ostara fun!

Last Wednesday was Waldorf Homeschool day at Many Hands House! It was a super fun time! I just love the homey pandemonium there! We helped the kids make Spring baskets, with wheat berry seeds to grow wheat grass. Kevin checks his basket a couple times a day! It would grow faster if it were out in the sun I think, but it's been raining for several days so it's in the house, but still growing. Here's a picture of it from sunday night.
The grass is much taller today. I'll take another picture later with Kevin showing it off for an update. :)

Sunday was Ostara, the Vernal Equinox!
Kevin gets a Spring gift basket, usually with a few treats and some outdoor toys. Since his birthday and Yule are in the fall and winter, we save outdoor toy gifts for spring. :)
He loves the hula hoop and bubble wand. He's already gone through all the glow sticks! lol

I was so ready for Spring, but it would be nice to see the sun!
How did you celebrate the First Day of Spring?
